Half-Day
Workshops
are designed for a maximum of 30 students.
The
half-day
workshops
are
typically
lecture/demonstration
for
the
first
portion
of
the
class,
with
design
exercises
on
grids
and
diagrams
provided
for
the
class
during
the
second
portion. Numerous quilts
and block variations are shown in each workshop.
The quilt shown for each workshop is an example
using the block or style of the workshop and is not the only quilt
design that will be presented for that workshop.

A design workshop for those who wish to employ patchwork in new design dimensions. Patchwork such as Windmill, Friendship Star, Attic Windows, Log Cabin, Railfence and Rob Peter to Pay Paul provide the opportunity for designing with a focus on color. As you color the grids, blocks may be combined to create individual experiments focusing on color and movement, or one block may be repeated and/or manipulated to create a new composition.

BUILDINGS

A workshop for the quilter who wishes to design a quilt inspired by buildings or architectural features. Through exploring ways to simplify and stylize, each participant will problem-solve building shapes and motifs into patchwork; develop a theme by accenting and/or reproducing architectural features; and begin drawing unique quilt designs. How to enlarge to-scale line drawings will be reviewed for those wishing to work with full-size patterns.

A workshop for the quilter wanting to design innovative and distinctive Kaleidoscope quilts. Each participant will select specific block sizes and consider variations of block layouts before using colored pencils to color in design ideas. Quilts featuring creative, Log Cabin diamonds, triangles, off-center
squares and elongated rectangular blocks illustrate why this age-old
patchwork has been given a new look. A trunk show of quilts is loaded
with examples of innovative blocks, colorful designs and varied project
possibilities. Demonstrations of helpful hints and techniques provide
you know-how. You will receive line drawings and block grids of the
designs in order to customize your color plan and individual
preferences. Leave class with patterns and ideas galore.
